The Caroline Center, Inc. takes a leadership role in building partnerships and trusts with individuals, families, advocates, and local and state agencies. Because of our belief in the rights and dignity of individuals, we are committed to:

The empowerment of individuals to create and choose individualized plans that support self determination. Enhancing the community life of individuals with disabilities in accordance with their self determined plan. The development of quality supports and a flexible service delivery system that maximizes individual development and personal enhancement.

After many years of focusing on needs of individuals living in the rural area of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Caroline Center responded to a plea from the state of Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration to support individuals who were leaving a state developmental center which was closing. Within a six month period, The Caroline Center established a Day Habitation Program for thirty individuals and six homes for twenty-four individuals with very challenging needs. Including 2 homes staffed with RN/LPN's to serve individuals with chronic medical conditions.

All homes owned or operated by The Caroline Center are accessible to individuals with physical disabilities both program participants and staff. All are equipped with safety devices to meet needs each individuals needs (hearing, vision impairments).

In all instances, creative thoughts and innovative ideas, extensive experience, and co-operation and integration with the community enabled the needs of individuals with disabilities to be met. The staff and management of the The Caroline Center have the experience, commitment to community service and integration, creativity and commitment to individuals with disabilities that makes a program a success.

Today, The Caroline Center is a dynamic agency providing services to children and adults with mental retardation, developmental disabilities and other handicapping conditions. We operate community integrated programs, sheltered workshops, and residential programs for individuals with severe medical involvement, including tracheotomies, G-tubes, Diabetes, quadriplegia, self injurious and aggressive behaviors. We also have an individual family support program for those individuals who live at home with their families or who live independently..
